POSTPARTUM ESSENTIALS

This post is a part of our baby essentials series by Monica Banks, founder of Gugu Guru – the ultimate baby registry discovery site for style-savvy moms.

Just a quick note for all you expectant and new mamas out there before we go into our product recommendations: Always remember that while feeling down and experiencing a bout of the “baby blues” is normal and to be expected in the initial postpartum phase, if you’re really finding it hard to get your spirits back up, talk to your OB-GYN, doula or physician as soon as possible.

First and foremost, WELCOME BABY SONNY! We are over the moon for Whitney and Tim.  Directly after bringing baby home from the hospital is the time that we at Gugu Guru call Newborn Lockdown.  Newborn Lockdown is the first six to eight weeks after having a baby that you don’t leave the house as much and the period of getting to know and bonding with your newest little one, while also starting to establish a routine.  One of the most common pieces of advice that I give a new mom is to limit guests during those first initial weeks. Not just because your house may be more unkempt than usual; it’s because you just don’t need more bodies in the mix. Use this time to focus on baby and also don’t forget to focus on YOU.

It’s important to keep in mind that self-care isn’t selfish; it’s crucial to postpartum recovery, including taking steps to feeling good, staying hydrated, making sure you’re comfortable and dressing right.  For this post on postpartum essentials, we sent Whitney our list of must-haves, she also did her own research and here are the products that rose to the top of her list.
