Get the Look: Soft Waves

Whitney has incredible hair, and is known for her effortlessly undone waves. I get asked all the time how to get her look, and it’s easier to get at home than you think.

  • Start with towel dried, damp hair. Prep hair by spraying it with Texturizing Salt Spray from Balmain. This will give your hair a little grit and movement that will help keep any texture you put into it.
  • Rough dry hair with a blow dryer using only your fingers. If you have frizzier hair, dry hair with a flat brush.
  • Once dry, take big sections of hair using a larger barreled curling iron. The trick in keeping the waves undone is to wave each section in a different direction, so they aren’t uniform or too polished. Alternate curling sections away from the face and then towards the face, keeping the ends straight. Keeping your ends straight is a great way to make sure your texture looks natural.
  • After using the curling iron, you can break the waves up further by running a flat iron over random sections or just on the ends. I love the flat iron from Harry Josh Pro Tools because it heats up quickly and evenly.
  • After styling, use a dime sized amount of Easy Rider from Kevin Murphy for a little separation buy running product through with fingers.
  • Finish by spraying hair with Dry Texture Spray from Oribe for lots of texture and body.

If you’re intimidated by doing your own hair, the best piece of advice I can always give is don’t overthink it! Keeping hair textured and modern is done best when you don’t over think it.

Have fun with this style and feel free to share any tips you guys have found that work best for you.
