Chapter 25: I Love My Baby, But…The First Day Out Was No Fun

All you moms out there have been there…You’re driving on the freeway with your brand new baby in the back and all of a sudden they’re hysterical. You don’t know what to do, you can’t pull over, you think they’re choking, you’re freaking out! Well, hopefully you’ve all been there, cause that was me a couple weeks ago and it scarred me and I need some help! Taking Sonny out has proven to be very scary for me. Not only does the preparation and packing give me massive amounts of anxiety but the amount he hates the car seat is enough for me to never want to leave the house, like EVER! I am taking him out today ( because I have to, not because I want to) and have a few tricks up my sleeve that some other moms have armed me with, but it’s a real thing and my new hurdle to get over. Check out this chapter of I Love My Baby, But… to see how my first day out with him went and why Sonny and I may just be cool to live at home together forever.

  1. Hi Whitney,
I completely understand you. My son is one year old and I remember how hard was to go out with him on his first months. A few friends (who don’t have children) could not understand when I declined lunch invitations…
What I can tell you is that it will get better, trust me 🙂

  2. I just need to tell you how amazing you are. I have been reading and watching your blog for the past few weeks since finding it and I can’t begin to tell you how much your honest recounts of new parenthood resonate with me! I have a 9month old and EVERYTHING you are going through and feeling (good and bad), I did as well! I watch your videos and seriously feel like Im listening to myself! Thank you, thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so honest and brave in sharing the REAL mommy-hood adventure. Ive never been an “anxious” person, but motherhood has made me use that word ALOT. And it makes me feel more normal to know that its OK to feel these ways and that I’m not alone. You’re doing a great job, keep being you! Your little boy is the cutest!

  3. We are “those parents” as well and did not take our baby out except for doctors appointments. I got the nerve up and went on a family outing to the grocery store. He crapped all over me and himself and I think it traumatized me for awhile. He’s almost 8mos old now and it is getting easier! But if I can avoid taking him out I do. Going to Target alone is like a vacation! Just know that you are not alone!
PS I’m still waiting on my nipples to go back to normal ????
