Whit’s Picks for Baby Style

This post is a part of our baby essentials series by Monica Banks, founder of Gugu Guru – the ultimate baby registry discovery site for style-savvy moms.

Labor Day has come and gone now, which means that it’s the unofficial start of fall. For a stylish mama like Whitney, fall is synonymous with fashion so we thought this was the perfect time to write about Whit’s Picks for Baby Style. When registering for baby, Whitney held off on registering for too many baby clothes because she didn’t know the gender.  Now that her adorable baby boy, Sonny, is here, she was ready to expand on the neutral basics from her registry with some eco-friendly, gender-specific, stylish pieces.

For this post on baby style, we sent Whitney our list of must-haves, she also did her own research and here are the clothing brands that rose to the top of her list.

Hanna Andersson

Swedish brand, Hanna Andersson is known for the super-softness, comfy seams, and long lasting durability of its “hannas”. Most organic hannas are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, which means they’re tested down to the very last strand of thread for over 100 harmful substances, using strict European certification standards.

Bestaroo

Bestaroo’s super cute clothing line is made with Lenzing Modal®. A modal fiber from Lenzing, is naturally soft on the skin and exceptionally ecological. The soft fabric offers benefits not only for your baby but for the environment as well.

Lark Adventurewear

Lark Adventurewear is the first baby “activewear apparel brand” (think Lululemon – but for babies.) This line, made with natural breathable wicking fabric is functional, fashionable, environmentally friendly, and totally safe for your little one’s sensitive skin.

Skylar Luna

An award-winning mix of feel-good fabric and California-inspired style, Skylar Luna is ecofriendly sleepwear for the trendsetters of tomorrow. Created to give parents a social- and style-conscious kids’ sleepwear alternative, Skylar Luna combines superior comfort with modern, uncomplicated design and the peace of mind that machine-washable/dryable, 100%-organic cotton provides.

Masala Baby

Masala Baby is a baby and kids lifestyle brand that combines the rich cultural influences of India with a modern, contemporary aesthetic that crosses borders effortlessly. The global feel of the brand is a direct result of journeys from the East to the West and back. The result is a blend of styles that are inspirational yet practical.

Nununu

The ultra cool Nununu began with the basic color palette of black, grey, white and maybe a touch of color here and there. The brand designed practical shapes that wore well and looked great and took their graphic inspiration from geometric designs, architecture and industrial design. A fun fact? Nununu embeds their signature scent deep in the garments (it releases after a few washes.)

Softsie

Infused into the Softsie Footie are Aloe Vera, Jojoba Oil, and Vitamin E. These ingredients are infused into the fabric through a capsulation process. The capsules open to release the treatment only when the fabric is touched or rubbed by human skin. Essentially, every time an infused garment is worn, the capsules break open and the materials are released gently.

Under the Nile

Under the Nile is known for the premium quality, organic Egyptian cotton layette Essentials. In fact, the brand is the exclusively authorized importers of organic Egyptian cotton baby clothing in the United States. With fresh colors and adorable prints, Under the Nile clothing can be mixed and matched for easy style. Be sure to also check out their toys that are unique, imaginative and, of course, organic, inside and out.

Finn+Emma

Finn+ Emma thinks that only the finest 100% organic cotton, eco friendly dyes, and all natural wood will do for your little munchkin, and they’ve got plenty. And on top of that, Finn+Emma garments and accessories are produced in fair trade settings that focus on social and economic independence for local people, women especially, working to provide for their families in a safe and fair environment.
